Diaphane – Samdhya

Ant-Zen, 2010
Feb 16, 2015

Diaphane is the solo project of Régis Baillet, the one half of the Ab Ovo" project (we have suggested an album of this project here) . Since "Ab Ovo"’s pause both artist have released a number of albums through their solo projects. "Samdhya" is Regis Baillet’s first release as diaphane and he is clearly picking up from where he left with "Ab Ovo".

The piano based melodies and the progressive clear beat rhythm will be familiar for every "Ab Ovo" listener yet the approach of Regis involves more feeling with warmth on one hand and aggressiveness on the other. Soundscapes and deep bass accompany once again the rhythms towards an atmospheric and lonely path of experience. This experience begins with the strongest track of the album, a real joy for our ears, but disappointingly, although the rest of the tracks are crafted masterfully, the release will not give us another listen of this scale.

That said, apart from "Nebula" which is the first track, we got hooked on "Signa", "Petals", "Isthme" and "Undefined". Don't hesitate to check Diaphane's second release "Lifeforms" which is delivered with dup-step and drum & bass installments.
