“Burrows” is a compilation album, gathering works and remixes from 2000 to 2008 of the “Loess” duo. The sound of Loess, despite its dim similarity with Boards of Canada, secures its unique space in the IDM sphere and defines their musical approach. Ambient and downtempo with dystopian sequences, broken melodies and glitch hip hop beats, could vaguely describe what should be expected from this release.
What’s more, steady and inventive beats stage thoughtful loop-melodies that echo solitude enjoyment. But loops and minimal in general, unlike other places, aren’t expressed the same here. Most tracks are notably lengthy for a reason. “Loess” gradually enriches each track manipulating the infrastructure itself.
Στο δωμάτιο της Νίκης υπήρχε ένας καθρέφτης κολλημένος στο δεξί φύλλο της ντουλάπας. Μέρος της καθημερινότητας της, από εφηβεία, ήταν να διαλέγει και να προβάρει τα ρούχα της μπροστά στον καθρέφτη. Ύστερα έμπαινε μέσα στην ντουλάπα και εμφανιζόταν πάλι μετά από ώρες. Μέσα υπήρχε όλος της ο κόσμος, παρόμοιος με αυτόν που αποφεύγει αλλά αντεστραμμένος στα δικά της μέτρα. Οι γονείς ,που συνεχώς άλλαζαν ψυχολόγους, για να την βοηθήσουν όπως έλεγαν, δεν καταλάβαιναν πως η Νίκη όντως έφευγε από την κρύπτη που από γενιές είχαν σκάψει παιδιά μέσα στην ντουλάπα. Δεν καταλάβαιναν, γιατί ξέχασαν. Γιατί επέλεξαν την σήψη. Όπως και η Νίκη άλλωστε αργότερα.
