Gridlock – Formless

Hymen, 2003
Mar 31, 2015

Gridlock disbanded in 2005 after a 10 years journey in the electronic scene, evolving from industrial EBM to ambient industrial shoegaze. Their last release “Formless”, that is presented here, became a classic for idm listeners. Their sound approach on this album may seem outdated and ordinary now, but at that time was unique and ahead of its time. The phrase “Gridlock-like” accompanies many other artists’ reviews on their albums for years.

“Formless” is a complex album with intelligent and distorted beat rhythms, soundscapes and shoegaze atmospheric melodies. It is intense at times but in general calm-distorted and thought-provoking. The tracks seem to be joined together with a certain harmony and the production is all that you expect from a mastering engineers duo.

The one half of Gridlock, Mike Cadoo, continued his journey on music-making after the duo’s disbanding with two projects. The one is Dryft that generally picks up from where Gridlock left and the other is Bitcrush where he experiment with live instruments and post-rock.

Our respect for 'Pallid', 'Return', 'Song23', 'Chrometaphor', 'Scratch', 'Displacement', 'Atomontage' and 'Done Processing'.
